Dusk on the Fairweathers

Sunset over the high peaks of the Fairweather Range in Glacier Bay National Park.  Mountain Peaks from left to right:  La Perouse (10,728 ft., 44 miles away), Mt. Crillon (12,726 ft., 49 miles away), Mt. Bertha (10, 204 ft., 44 miles away), Lituya Mountain (11,750 ft., 61 miles away), Mt. Fairweather (15,300 ft., 67 miles away).  Lester Island sits in Glacier Bay in front of the distant peaks. These are some of the highest coastal mountains in the world. As the breezes move east over the Pacific Ocean and moisture condenses the clouds rise over the Fairweathers dropping massive amounts of snow which formed the glaciers over tens of thousands of years in Glacier Bay National Park.
